Oregon Cartoon Institute brings Harry Smith home to Seattle in time to welcome the 2014 Society of Cinema and Media Studies conference, which opens Wednesday March 19 and runs through Sunday March 23.
Cellist Lori Goldston will provide live accompaniment for OCI’s multiple projector, expanded cinema version of Heaven & Earth Magic. The screening will take place at the Seattle International Film Festival Cinema on Tuesday March 18, 7:0o PM. SIFF Cinema is located at 511 Queen Anne Avenue North.
Please note: Oregon Cartoon Institute has no connection to the Harry Smith Archives.
Seattle is the second stop on the Harry Smith Comes Home Tour! Preceded by Bellingham, and hopefully, at some point, followed by Anacortes. All three are communities where Harry Smith lived.
If you’re going to the SCMS conference, come and see me. I am on a panel titled Wet, Wired, and Weird: Pacific Northwest Film and Media Culture.
Here are the panel members and their papers:
The Origins of Seattle Slacker Culture in Cameron Crowe’s Say Anything . . . and Singles/Carter Soles, panel chair
“I’ll See You in the Trees”: Screening the Northwest Stage through David Lynch’s White and Black Lodges/Rachel Joseph
Harry Smith: Cross Culturality And Regional Identity In A Salmon Nation Beatnik/Anne Richardson
